Ed Moses (swimmer) - Ed Moses (born June 7, 1980 in Loma Linda, California) is an American swimmer who won a gold and silver medal at the 2000 Summer Olympics. Leading into the Olympic Games, Moses broke the American record at the 2000 Olympic Trials.

Michael Heath (swimmer) - Michael ("Mike") Steward Heath (born August 9, 1964) is an American swimmer, who won three Olympic medals at the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, California.

David Wilkie (swimmer) - David Wilkie (born 8 March 1954, Sri Lanka) was a Scottish Olympic and Commonwealth Games champion in swimming in the 1970s. He was said to be the first swimmer to wear a head-cap and goggles together in competition to improve the streamline effect within the water.

Penny Heyns - Penelope Heyns (better known as Penny Heyns) (born 8 November, 1974) is a South African swimmer. She is best known for being the only woman in the history of the Olympic Games to have won both the 100 m and 200 m breaststroke events - at the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games - making her South Africa's first post-apartheid Olympic gold medallist following South Africa's re-admission to the Games in 1992.

The 1932 Olympic games took place in Los Angeles in the depths of the Great Depression; that they were held at all falls barely short of miraculous.
